JOURNAL / INVESTMENT
It is the first question we get, and the honest answer is that it depends. But not on just anything: a custom solid wood door is quoted from a handful of variables worth knowing before asking for a price.
Reference ranges
These are the figures we work with in the workshop, in Mexican pesos, before VAT, freight and installation:
- Interior door: from MXN 30,000.
- Front or façade door: MXN 50,000 to 95,000.
- Complete door and window project: from MXN 300,000.
- Fabrication: 3 to 8 weeks per piece.
What moves the price
- Size. A taller or wider leaf needs more wood, thicker sections and stronger hardware.
- Opening system. A large pivot or sliding door carries more expensive hardware than a hinged one.
- Species. Tzalam, macuil and parota don’t cost the same, and not all of them work equally well outdoors.
- Design. Panels, boards, carving or screens change the workshop hours.
- Glass. If the door has glass, double or triple glazing and safety glass add to the cost.
- Hardware and finish. Locks, pulls and the finish for exterior or coastal use.
- Installation and freight. Outside Oaxaca they are quoted separately.
How to ask for a useful quote
Send the drawing or the opening’s dimensions, whether it is interior or exterior, how you want it to open, the wood you like (if you know), the site location and the date. With that we first give you a ballpark and then a detailed per-piece quote.
An order is confirmed with the approved quote and a deposit, usually 50%; the balance is paid on delivery.
Why it costs more than a stock door
A custom solid wood door is designed for its opening, built with joinery that lets the wood move, and can be sanded, repaired and refinished for decades. A stock panel or imported door costs less, but it is replaced when it gets damaged. It is a different investment, and worth comparing with that in mind.
